Field tunic for Seebataillon & Marineinfanterie troops

Description

A privately purchased example worn by "Marineinfanterie" units.

Cotton lining with a French maker's stamp. Named. White piping around the collar, the cuffs and the button line. Collar buttons secured with modern prongs. Collar tabs removed. Tombak buttons. Including a dressing pocket.

Embroidered shoulder boards for a soldier serving with II. Batl. of the Seebataillon. Sewn in. White piping. Matching button in place.

Machine-attached collar tabs and sleeve patches. Matching patina.

It looks like this tunic was period time modified by a French tailor to be a Seebatallion tunic. See the ink stamp to the lining. The button holes were on the other side once. New holes to the other side were added, the old holes were closed. The collar was also extended to make it a folding collar. All modifications were certainly done period time.

A very rare tunic with only minor signs of wear. No notable moth holes but only a few bites.
