This Heer M17 helmet is a rare piece worn by Austrian Freikorps Sturmtrupp soldiers during World War I. The helmet features the iconic M17 design with a distinctive Austrian Freikorps Sturmtrupp insignia. 

Post WW1 added camo paint with an Iron Cross, lightning and teeth motif. As far as Freikorps paint designs go this is one of the most radical to be seen and a real unique item.

The helmet itself is in very good condition with the field grey and camo paint colors present under a layer of patina.  The white paint added in the freikorps era shows clear brushstrokes under patina.  

Inside the helmet is clean with a complete liner which is darkened but 100% present.  Also to be noted is a canvas chinstrap with grommets for sizing.  

This helmet is extremely unique and a real exciting item for transitional period collectors.
