Rare grouping to Generalleutnant Gustav Sieß (1883-1970). During the First World War, he commanded the submarines U-33 and U-73. 53 merchant ships and 3 warships were sunk and 10 merchant ships were damaged under his command. On April 24, 1918, he was awarded the Pour le Mèrite. He also received the 1914 Iron Cross and the House Order of Hohenzollern. Promoted to Generalleutnant of the Luftwaffe on April 1, 1944 and retired from military service at the end of the month.

Excellent photo material with numerous photos from international expeditions. Among them is an excellent group photo of Pour le Mèrite winners (taken in the 50/60s). The spine is damaged.
