Beschreibung

Grouping to Obergefreiten Karl Kleis serving with Grenadier-Regiment 220, part of 58. Infanterie-Division. Involved in the Demyansk Pocket and Battle of Memel. The regiment was exposed to fierce fighting, especially in Russia. After the evacuation of the City of Memel, only a few of the regiment's soldiers were able to flee to the west. 

Certificate to East Medal. Issued on 15.01.1942. Hand-signed by a Hauptmann (Schröder ?).

Certificate to 1939 Iron Cross 2nd Class. Issued on 23.01.1943. Hand-signed by Generalmajor Karl von Graffen, Knight's Cross winner. 

Certificate to Infantry Assault Badge in Silver. Issued on 01.02.1943. Hand-signed by Major Arthur Jüttner, Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords winner. 

Certificate to Wound Badge in Black. Issued on 20.01.1945. Hand-singed by Oberstleutnant Armin Lembke, Knight's Cross winner.

1939 Iron Cross 1st Class. Three-part construction. Iron core. Original black paint. "L/11" maker marked on the back. He carved his name and address on the back of the Iron Cross. He was probably promoted to non-commissioned officer in the final months of the war.  

1939 Iron Cross 2nd Class with its ribbon. Iron core.

Infantry Assault Badge in Silver. Zinc.

Wound Badge in Black. Missing pin and catch.

East Medal with the original ribbon. "10" maker marked.
