1914 Iron Cross 1st Class "800", including additional hooks

Description

1914 Iron Cross 1st Class. Classic three-part construction with iron core. Original paint to the core. "800" marked on the back and the pin. Correctly attached hinge, catch and pin. No repairs. The additional hooks may have been added later but in the period. This kind of hooks weren't standard. Cross in very good condition with beautiful glossy paint and minor signs of age.

The maker of this cross remains unknown up until this day.

King Frederick William III of Prussia initially created the Iron Cross as a military decoration on March 17, 1813, during the Napoleonic Wars. The Iron Cross was also awarded during the Franco-Prussian War (1870), World War I (1914), and World War II (1939).

The Iron Cross was usually a military decoration only but awarded to civilians for performing military functions in a few instances.
